A unique five week study of the issue of Jesus’ resurrection will be offered at the First Presbyterian Church, Mesa, which is neither conservative nor liberal but is postmodern. Designed to respond to “Christianity’s cultured despisers,” the presentation takes seriously Jacques Derrida’s “differance,” a key procedure in postmodern deconstruction. The series will be led by retired teaching elder, Gordon Letizia, of Grand Canyon Presbytery. Although he believes the church must stop “dumbing down” theology, he uses various techniques, such as role plays, to clarify and simplify key concepts. His work has strengthened commitment of new members and others in the congregation he served for many years.
